Lasix is a drug that contains the active substance Furosemide, which is a very strong diuretic commonly called Lasix and is considered a loop diuretic. This drug will cause the body to excrete water together with potassium, sodium, and chloride.

Loop diuretics are extremely strong drugs that have an extremely dramatic effect on fluid levels in the athlete’s body. Athlete’s that compete usually use this drug to reduce water weight, in order to adjust their weight class. Weigh-in are usually a day or a few days before a competition/match and with the help of the drug, one can drop a considerable amount of bodyweight and return back to their normal weight within a couple of hours with the correct rehydration.

PROPERTIES AND EFFECTS OF FUROSEMIDE

When used, Lasix starts pushing fluid from the body after approximately one hour at an extremely high rate, this expulsion of fluid will continue for approximately 3 - 4 hours. During this time, the athlete should expect heavy and frequent urination.

Note: Urination can occur so frequently that many users say they find it annoying. A notable loss in body weight during this time should also be expected, but remember, will not lose body fat, it will only be fluid, but the amount of fluid expelled will be sufficient to make a notable difference in your total body weight.

The drug is used by athletes that have a difficult time meeting their weight class requirements. It can work quite well, but at the same time, it can also be detrimental to performance. When using Lasix, the individual will normally feel very drained, which reduces performance. Loss of electrolytes make it difficult to perform at high levels.

FUROSEMIDE SIDE EFFECTS

Use of Lasix comes with quite intense side effects so we don’t recommend it in good conscious to athletes or bodybuilders because there are safer diuretics available. It is possible for dehydration to occur but it is unlikely, due to that fact that you are removing excess fluid.

Dehydration of the body will in turn create a strong electrolyte imbalance and is something that must be monitored closely.

Side effects from the use of Lasix can include a significant increase in blood bicarbonate levels and when dehydrated and with an electrolyte imbalance, the following side effects may occur:

• Dizziness.
• Headache.
• Dry Mouth.
• Muscle Cramps.
• Low Blood Pressure.
• Seizures.
• Gastrointestinal Discomfort.
• Low Urine Volume.

Abuse of the drug will lead to an increased chance of developing severe side effects.

USE OF LASIX TABLETS

To treat high blood pressure, we recommend a dosage of 40mg per day, 2 times per day.

To treat edema, we recommend a dosage of 20 - 80mg per day.

The dosage of Lasix should be calculated on individual factors that surround the athlete. Many athletes find 20mg is a good dosage to start with followed by another 20mg, 12 hours later if necessary. You should not need more than 40mg per day in total and we recommend the drug be used for 3 days maximum.

For a safer experience combine it with a potassium sparring diuretic. Using 20mg of Lasix together with 50mg of Aldactone should sufficient to help the individual manage the side effects.
