Megamentin 1000 is manufactured by the company Intas Pharmaceuticals. The drug consists of Amoxicillin (an antibiotic) and Potassium Clavulanate (a beta-lactamase inhibitor) which work together to eliminate bacteria.

The drug is used to treat a number of bacterial infections of the ear, sinus, throat, lung, urinary tract, skin, teeth, joints, and bones. It is often used to treat acne caused by bacteria in the skin.

PROPERTIES AND EFFECTS OF AMOXICILLIN & POTASSIUM

Both substances work together to kill the bacteria but have different actions. Amoxicillin prevents the growth of bacteria by stopping the formation of the protective covering which is important for bacteria to be able to survive. Potassium Clavulanate reduces the resistance of bacteria and also enhances the effect of Amoxicillin.

USE OF AUGMENTIN

The dosage usually depends on the severity of the infection that you are trying to treat. We recommend using a dosage of 1000mg (1 tablet) per day. Use the drug until all symptoms of infection have been completely eradicated. Discontinuation of the drug too early is not good because bacteria could still be present and may end up become resistant to the drug.

SIDE EFFECTS OF AUGMENTIN

An upset stomach is usually reported but this may be avoided by taking the drug with food.

Other side effects are:

Nausea.
Vomiting.
Diarrhea.

These should disappear after discontinuation of the drug.
