Zovirax (acyclovir) is a herpes simplex virus (HSV) nucleoside analogue DNA polymerase inhibitor that is used to help people treat recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) in immunocompetent adults and adolescents 12 years and older.

PROPERTIES AND EFFECTS OF ZOVIRAX

This drug is used to treat "cold sores/fever blisters" (herpes labialis).

Using the drug speeds up the healing of the sores and reduces symptoms, such as:

•        Tingling

•        Pain

•        Burning

•        Itching

Acyclovir is an anti-viral that works by stopping the growth of the virus.

Acyclovir does not prevent a future occurrence of an outbreak, it does not cure herpes, and it does not prevent transmission of the infection to someone else. It only helps the user to manage the symptoms.

ZOVIRAX CREAM USE

Take the drug at the first sign of infection appears (such as tingling, burning, redness).  Wash your hands well before and after using the drug and clean the affected area before applying.

Apply it to the affected area gently 5 times a day (every 3 - 4 hours), for 4 days to treat cold sores.

This product should only be used on the skin and is not to be applied in the eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina.

The dosage should be based on the severity of your medical condition, type of infection, and the way your body responds to the medication. Do not extend the recommended length of the course.

ZOVIRAX SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects of Zovirax Cream include:

•        Contact dermatitis.

•        Skin swelling.

•        Skin sloughing.

•        Skin dryness.

•        Cracked lips.

•        Burning skin.

•        Itching.

•        Temporary burning or stinging on skin where the medication is applied.

•        Application site reactions such as dry lips.
